- Intel Labs Introduces AI Diffusion Model, Generates 360-Degree Images from Text Prompts
LDM3D is industry’s first generative AI model to deliver depth mapping. It has the potential to revolutionize content creation, metaverse and digital experiences. SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Intel (Nasdaq: INTC): What’s New: Intel Labs, in collaboration with Blockade Labs, has introduced Latent Diffusion Model for 3D (LDM3D), a novel diffusion model that uses generative AI to create realistic 3D visual content. LDM3D is the industry’s first model to generate a depth map using the diffusion process to create 3D images with 360-degree views that are vivid and immersive. LDM3D has the potential to revolutionize content creation, metaverse applications and digital experiences, transforming a wide range of industries, from entertainment and gaming to architecture and design. “Generative AI technology aims to further augment and enhance human creativity and save time. However, most of today’s generative AI models are limited to generating 2D images and only very few can generate 3D images from text prompts. Unlike existing latent stable diffusion models, LDM3D allows users to generate an image and a depth map from a given text prompt using almost the same number of parameters. It provides more accurate relative depth for each pixel in an image compared to standard post-processing methods for depth estimation and saves developers significant time to develop scenes." —Vasudev Lal, AI/ML research scientist, Intel Labs Why It Matters: Closed ecosystems limit scale. And Intel’s commitment to true democratization of AI will enable broader access to the benefits of AI through an open ecosystem. One area that’s seen significant advancements in recent years is in the field of computer vision, particularly in generative AI. However, many of today’s advanced generative AI models are limited to generating only 2D images. Unlike existing diffusion models, which generally only generate 2D RGB images from text prompts, LDM3D allows users to generate both an image and a depth map from a given text prompt. Using almost the same number of parameters as latent stable diffusion, LDM3D provides more accurate relative depth for each pixel in an image compared to standard post-processing methods for depth estimation. This research could revolutionize how we interact with digital content by enabling users to experience their text prompts in previously inconceivable ways. The images and depth maps generated by LDM3D enable users to turn the text description of a serene tropical beach, a modern skyscraper or a sci-fi universe into a 360-degree detailed panorama. This ability to capture depth information can instantly enhance overall realism and immersion, enabling innovative applications for industries ranging from entertainment and gaming to interior design and real estate listings, as well as virtual museums and immersive virtual reality (VR) experiences. On June 20th, LDM3D won the Best Poster Award at the 3DMV workshop at CVPR. How It Works: LDM3D was trained on a dataset constructed from a subset of 10,000 samples of the LAION-400M database, which contains over 400 million image-caption pairs. The team used the Dense Prediction Transformer (DPT) large-depth estimation model (previously developed at Intel Labs) to annotate the training corpus. The DPT-large model provides highly accurate relative depth for each pixel in an image. The LAION-400M dataset has been built for research purposes to enable testing model training on larger scale for broad researcher and other interested communities. The LDM3D model is trained on an Intel AI supercomputer powered by Intel® Xeon® processors and Intel® Habana Gaudi® AI accelerators. The resulting model and pipeline combine generated RGB image and depth map to generate 360-degree views for immersive experiences. To demonstrate the potential of LDM3D, Intel and Blockade researchers developed DepthFusion, an application that leverages standard 2D RGB photos and depth maps to create immersive and interactive 360-degree view experiences. DepthFusion utilizes TouchDesigner, a node-based visual programming language for real-time interactive multimedia content, to turn text prompts into interactive and immersive digital experiences. The LDM3D model is a single model to create both an RGB image and its depth map, leading to savings on memory footprint and latency improvements. What’s Next: The introduction of LDM3D and DepthFusion paves the way for further advancements in multi-view generative AI and computer vision. Intel will continue exploring the use of generative AI to augment human capabilities and build a strong ecosystem of open source AI research and development that democratizes access to this technology. Continuing Intel’s strong support for open ecosystem in AI, LDM3D is being open sourced through HuggingFace. This will allow AI researchers and practitioners to improve this system further and fine-tune it for custom applications. More Context: Intel’s research was presented at the IEEE/CVF Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Conference (CVPR) June 18-22. For more information, refer to “LDM3D: Latent Diffusion Model for 3D” or view the LDM3D Demo. - HIGHLIGHTS OF DAY THREE OF DUBAI FASHION WEEK AW 2023/24
After Lili Blanc’s show at Paris Fashion Week, the third day of DFW kicked off with UAE-based Ready to Wear Lili Blanc's “Flamme Femme” collection La Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode – supported designer, Weinsanto, now a DFW member part of the designers' committee, revealed his collection Dyson’s exclusive masterclasses continue at Dubai Fashion Week More environmentally responsible fashion with Lateforwork and Pipatchara LILI BLANC Lili Blanc unveiled her "Flamme Femme" collection at DFW after showcasing during Paris Fashion Week as part of the Arab Fashion Council's partnership with the Federation de La Haute Couture et de la Mode. Glam crystals sparkled over sharply tailored suits, capes, and evening dresses, along with a wide range of ready-to-wear closets ranging from skirts, flared and fitted trousers, and jumpsuits to make this an all-around collection. The use of refreshing color tones of gold, burgundy, and purple, along with the usual white, black, green, and denim, deviated from Lili Blanc’s typical palette. PIPATCHARA PIPATCHARA's new collection, "Sensation Spectrum," delivered a unique combination of sustainability and luxury. The collection was inspired by the sensations of nature experienced during vacations, focusing on light and sound, giving us 30 looks of versatile designs suitable for any lifestyle. The use of Infinitude, an unconditional material, enabled infinite possibilities in terms of colorway and design with a color palette of grey, navy, silver, black, olive green, light purple, white, and light pink. The Infinitude jewelry demonstrated the potential of sustainable materials in the fashion industry, while the contemporary Macrame technique elevated the texture and craftsmanship of the outfits. WEINSANTO After showcasing for five seasons in Dubai as part of the collaboration between the Arab Fashion Council and the Federation de La Haute Couture et de la Mode, the French designer Victor Weinsanto has become one of the DFW members part of the designers' committee. His collection exhibited the surrealism of his proportions in every design. Mega cape, massive halo hat, deconstructed trench coats, bugle beads, chains, plastic shards, and metal blotches communicated a sense of fantasy in all the pieces created. The designer also gave us aged denim parkas, blotchy abstract print stretch cocktails, and sassy corsets made of velour. LATEFORWORK The brand’s collection that stems from the reality of our daily lives gave us designs of subculture references, all with desk job roots. We witnessed the formal wear reimagined with disproportional cuts and intrusion of color pop with a thick, velvety fabric that takes the attire out of the office. Oversized tailoring, textures, and movements, along with various silhouettes, felt alive on the runway and enabled Lateforwork women to walk freely in the dead stock fabrics to promote sustainability. The designer gave us revisited striped shirts, shoulder-padded jackets, and articles with a flowy feel. Searching for Day 1 and Day 2 of #DubaiFashionWeek? - Mexican Days
In February 2023, I had an opportunity to spend three magnificent weeks in Mexico visiting the capital city (where I attended ZONAMACO, the biggest Latin American art fair) as well as 3 other destinations: Puebla, Cholula, and Mérida. There are several reasons why Mexico should be on your bucket list for 2023 and beyond. It's one of those eclectic travel destinations that offer a unique blend of tradition and innovation and an unlimited list of activities for every budget and taste. No matter is you are looking for an adventure trip with a group of friends, a romantic getaway with your partner, fun family holidays with kids, or a peaceful solo trip, you will be spoilt for choice. From street tacos to fine dining, inexpensive local markets to upscale shopping experiences, simple hostels to luxury boutique hotels, pre-Hispanic sites to modern architecture, nature and beach destinations to city life – Mexico offers it all. CDMX - The City of the Future Most people don't think about technology when they think about Mexico. Wrong! Let me show you a couple of recent examples how Mexico City is moving toward the future and making everyday life not only easier but also more exciting. Connectivity In 2021, Mexico City won Guinness record for internet connectivity beating out metropolises such as Seoul and Tokyo. With a system of more than 28,000 free WiFi hotspots, it is still one of the most connected cities on Earth. “Technology does not make sense if it isn’t for the benefit of the inhabitants, especially the most marginalized of our city,” said Claudia Sheinbaum, mayor of Mexico City. The innovative Internet for All program benefits international travellers as well and is a welcome break from overpriced roaming charges or similar interruptions to connectivity. The free WiFI hotspots are located all over Mexico City and there is no limit to how long you can be connected. What's really interesting is the fact that the system was created using existing unused bandwidth on security cameras and helps to keep the city residents and visitors safe. You can read more about the integration with Mi Calle and Sendero Seguro programs here. Public Transportation Stylish blue trolleybuses can now be found in Mexico's capital city as part of an ongoing modernisation of its transport network. These new vehicles feature a double-source driveline technology (provided by Chinese manufacturer Yutong), which mean that they can run on overhead lines or on battery power. They are an affordable and eco-friendly way to travel around the city. Clean, quiet and comfortable. Highly recommended! You can view and download the Trolleybus Lines Map that can be easily saved on your phone and used offline while travelling, here. Culture The first piece of public art driven by artificial intelligence (AI) in Latin America can be found in the elegant Neuchâtel Cuadrante Polanco residential complex located in Nuevo Polanco. The Eye of Mexico reflects the vibrant energy of the city and is the first data and artificial intelligence sculpture in Mexico. A true benchmark for innovation, mobility and urban planning, it has been created based on (past and present) demographic, urban and mobility data for the Mexican capital. This hypnotising work of public art is a collaboration with renowned international new media studio, Ouchhh, which "has a dream about secret codes of cosmic multidimensional hybrid universes made by AI without physical architectural boundaries". Representing the dynamism of Neuchâtel Cuadrante Polanco, where you can also enjoy a selection of shops focused on wellness and gastronomy, "The Eye of Mexico" project not only enhances the quality of people’s lives and makes everyday life extraordinary, but also directs us toward the future of mobility. How exciting! "Simply put, Mexico City is where things are happening in the Latin American world. Every major financial institution is in Mexico City. The best universities are in Mexico City. World renowned artists, innovators, and entrepreneurs call Mexico City home and it shows no signs of slowing down." - Source: CodersLink Below you can find a small selection of pictures showing my daily life in Mexico City, featuring some of my favourite places in Roma Norte and Polanco. Mexico City (Photos by Eva Fydrych | Fashion Studio Magazine) Slow Down Both Puebla and Cholula offer a refreshing break from the busy city life and they are well connected with the Mexican capital. Several bus companies operate between Mexico City and Puebla (I recommend ADO) and the journey time is a little over 2 hours. During my stay in Puebla, I discovered two chic hotels that I would highly recommend: one located in the historic centre (Hotel Royalty Puebla) and one in La Paz neighbourhood (Arkana Hotel by Rotamundos). Royalty Puebla is a luxury boutique hotel situated in a stunning colonial building right in the heart of Puebla's Zócalo which remains the cultural, political and religious centre of the city. You can find many notable buildings around, including City Hall, Casa de los Muñecos, and the Baroque style Cathedral. The Historic Centre of Puebla features some of the best-preserved colonial architecture in Mexico and is among the oldest on the continent. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. Nearby Cholula, one of Pueblos Mágicos, is indeed a place where you can spend unforgettable moments, escape the routine, and invite some magic to your everyday life. If you decide to stay in San Andrés Cholula, don't miss Majikal B&B (we will be writing more about this unique destination soon). Recommended place to stay in San Pedro Cholula: Quinta Alhóndiga Galindo, a historic mansion from the end of 18th century which is now a family-run boutique hotel showcasing the beauty of Mexican culture and archeology. Magical Cholula moments (Photos by Eva Fydrych | Fashion Studio Magazine) Tropical Escape If you are looking for a delightful mix of provincial and cosmopolitan atmosphere, Mérida, the capital of Yucatán Peninsula, is the place to be. Take a flight from Mexico City and be there in less than 2 hours (you can fly with local airlines such as Volaris, Viva Aerobus or Aeroméxico). Recommended place to stay: Majikal B&B, one of the most stylish and unique rental properties in Mérida, offering everything you may need during your Mexican vacation (pool, fully-equipped kitchen with a coffee maker, patio featuring exotic plants, beautifully restored old furniture, colourful decor elements, and local art). More about these exciting destinations coming soon. Stay tuned! The true essence of Mexico lies exactly here – somewhere in the middle between tradition and modernity, far away from all-inclusive resorts of Cancún. I invite you to create your own unique experience and find a little piece of paradise next time you visit this fascinating country.
